Yeah, so many people, were expecting to see Miss Columbia wear the Miss Universe crown at the end of the event, but Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters took home top honours ahead of Laura González Miss Columbia and the Davina Bennett Miss Jamaica who became the talk of the night for wearing an Afro. She (Davina Bennett) was stunning, and different.

Miss South Africa Nel-Peters had an awful experience she would never forget, ” she was held at gunpoint a month after winning Miss South Africa tittle”. Normally, this would have shook her career, but she used it as stepping stone and found a defense campaign called “unbreakable”. The aim of the campaign is to equip women with knowledge and skills to empower and protect themselves in adverse situations.
2. Did you know that Nel-Peters is a recent college graduate?
Before coming to Las Vegas to compete, Nel-Peters bagged a college degree from South Africa’s North West University.
3. Did you know that Demi-Leigh is the second person in South Africa to win the Miss Universe Tittle since the inception of the Pageant in 1956?
Joyfully, South Africa is pleased with Demi-Leigh for bringing back the glory to south Africa after Margaret Gardiner won the Miss Universe crown in 1978. She hasn’t just made South-Africa proud, she has brought fame to Africa as a continent.
4. Did you know who her biggest motivator in life is?
Many people would have chosen life time achievers as their motivators and inspirations, but you wouldn’t believe that her biggest motivator in life is her half sister Franje, and… she is just 10. In her words,
“My half-sister was born without a cerebellum and is completely disabled. She is my biggest motivator and inspiration, because her situation makes me realize how special life is and I always want to work twice as hard, enjoy life twice as much so that I can enjoy it for her as well. Therefore each experience I encounter is that much more special.”
5. Did you know that Miss South Africa currently Miss Universe loves golfing?
Although her Instagram handle holds lots of work out videos, she loves the exotic game of golf and spends her limited free time playing golf.
