Whistle- Blowing in Nigeria is the act of making oneself a Whistle Blower; this brings us to the meaning of a whistle blower. Now, a Whistle Blower is a person who provides the government, with any information about violation of financial regulations.
Well, Whistle- blowing could also mean the act of reporting a crime of which the reporter was initially involved and decides to back out, as a result of unjust settlements or Conscience Prick. Whichever way, this policy is on the fast lane of erasing corruption. The informants however, get handsomely paid based on percentage against amount recovered.
“The Whistle Blower Protection Bill, 2008 is a bill for an Act to provide for the manner in which individuals may in the public interest disclose information that relates to unlawful or other illegal conduct or corrupt practices of others, to provide for the protection against victimization of persons who make these disclosures; to provide for related matters.” – Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon sponsored the bill.
This Plausible initiative has shockingly recovered staggering amount of money that could make one dizzy just at the pronouncement of the figures. This is actually a step in the right direction (at least everybody has now become a watchdog of his own kind). Corruption has been attacked and will be defeated by the Nigerian Government. The interesting part of this Policy is, how lucrative it is to give a piece of valuable, original and authentic information (well subject to extreme investigation).
A whistle blower responsible for the provision of information that the government does not have, or would not have got from the public, leading directly to the recovery of public finds or assets maybe entitled to a reward between 2.5% and 5% of amount recovered. Wow… Have you actually thought and imagined how rich the informant(s) behind, the realization of the Whopping $9.8 million (which is about N3billion) recovered from the former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Mr. Andrew Laah Yakubu, on February 3, 2017 are right now.
Well if you haven’t… I have and I know the informant has actually upgraded his bank account. Already it has been recorded that the Federal Ministry of Finance has paid a whooping sum of N375.8 MILLION to 20 providers of the information related to the recovery of N11.6 Billion.
